Research Interest

Dr. Bhattacharya investigates the safety and efficacy of intra-arterial stem cell therapy in small and large animal model of ischemic stroke and its related mechanisms of neuroprotection. He has a vast experience in small and large animal surgical skills with a specialization in intra-arterial (intra-carotid) stem cell delivery in ischemic stroke. His research interest also lies with the regulatory RNA mediated mesenchymal stem cell engineering and nanoparticle based targeted drug delivery to the brain. During his doctoral studies at IIT(BHU), Varanasi he has explored the underlying mechanism for down-regulation of Aquaporin-4(AQP4) water channel by NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). Presently, he is working in collaboration with Nobel Laureate Prof.Andrew Schally on the aspects of neuroendocrine regulation in ischemic stroke. He has international collaborative research projects with Harvard Medical School, USA and Miller School of Medicine, USA in the field of stroke that includes ischemic stroke induced optic neuropathy and strategies of mitochondrial protection by stem cell therapy.
