Dr. Pallab Bhattacharya, Ph.D.

Associate Professor , Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology

Research Interest

  • Dr.Bhattacharya’s laboratory investigate strategies of neuroprotection following stroke by cell therapy, NCEs and drug repurposing. The lab has in vivo experimental stroke models (transient & permanent focal cerebral ischemia, global ischemia, subarachnoid hemorrhage) and in vitro [Oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)] working models to study hypoxia/ischemia. These models mimic human stroke condition and provides the platform for deciphering underlying associated molecular mechanisms, investigate different therapeutic options and explores the possibilities of finding biomarkers that can benefit public health. The research interest also lies with the regulatory RNA mediated stem cell engineering and nanoparticle based targeted drug delivery to the brain
  • Dr.Bhattacharya had an advanced training in stem cell biology from Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL),Woods Hole, Massachusetts USA. He has experience in mouse transgenesis and has acquired technical skills necessary to establish transgenic animals(Pronuclear injection, 2 cell injection, blastocyst injection, electroporation of zygotes and embryonic stem cell culture including transfection, selection, cloning and analysis of embryonic stem cell clones) with a latest updates on genome engineering technologies involving CRISPR/Cas9.
  • Dr.Bhattacharya is collaborating with Nobel Laureate Prof. Andrew Schally on the aspects of neuroendocrine regulation in stroke. He is also pursuing collaborative research projects with Miller School of Medicine,USA, University of Copenhagen, Denmark and INSERM, France.
