Associate Professor , Department of Pharmaceutics

Research Interest

  • Dr. Rakesh K Tekade, Assistant Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutics, is an academic-researcher with >10 year of teaching and research and postdoctoral experience gained in USA, UK, Malaysia, and India. He is recipient of several acclaimed awards including Commonwealth Fellow- UK, AICTE-National Doctoral Fellowship, IRISH-Postdoctoral Award, CSIR-SRF, AICTE-JRF. He has taken two postdoctoral Fellowships from University of Hawaii, USA and UT Southwestern Medical Centre, USA.
  • Dr. Tekade’s research group at NIPER-A investigates the design, development, and characterization of targeted nanotechnology-based formulations for the site-specific delivery of therapeutic drugs, siRNA, microRNA, plasmids, and peptides for the treatment of cancer. Development of NIR-Laser activatable Nanoseeds for the treatment of cancer as well as for the prevention of post-surgical relapse of the resectable tumor is another thrust goal of his research focus. An overarching goal of his current research interests encompass development of novel polymeric nanomaterial for effective cytosolic delivery of gene therapeutics. Dr. Tekade’s research is focused on designing a new generation of nanoparticles, which could identify the cancer cells and selectively deliver anticancer drugs and genes to inhibit the growth of cancer while sparing healthy tissues. His research work involves the applications of polymer chemistry, nanotechnology, molecular biology, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and imaging techniques. His research group has also investigated the anticancer activity, Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and molecular dynamics of several compounds and nanoformulations against cancer cell lines and tumorogenic mouse models. Till date, he haspublished >120 peer reviewed publications in international SCI indexed journals(>5000 citations; H–index of 39; cumulative Impact Factor: 395.10), contributed >90 international reference book chapters (Elsevier, Springer, Taylor & Francis and Wiley),05 invited editorial articlesand05 patent applications. He has delivered several invited researches talks and presented research finding in more than 30 scientific conferences. Till date he has mentored:02 Postdoc, 07 Ph. D, 43 Masters, 10 B. Pharm/ Biomedical Science students. Dr. Tekade is an Editor in Chief of a famous Book Series entitled “Advances in Pharmaceutical Product Development and Research Series”. As an editor, he has published Six (06) widely referred books namely: (i) Dosage Form Design Parameters, (ii) Dosage form Design Considerations, (iii) Fundamentals of Drug Delivery, (iv) Biomaterials and Bionanotechnology, (v) Drug Delivery Systems, (vi) Future of Pharmaceutical Research and Development.
